We had the great experience of working on an Earthship build this past weekend with a collective of extremely cool and knowledgeable people. We will be incorporating aspect of this type of building in our first ship.
We present 2 easy to follow slideshows. The first is the process of building the boats. The second is a brief explanation of the Fukushima problem and a possible path for us to attempt to do something about it.
All images are © their respective owners. We will be linking to them shortly.
We are currently working on more in depth plans which cover interiors, solar, wind, and waste compositing systems as well as a unique off the grid heating solutions for these boats.
We welcome any and all input to this project. Just email us. Any donation small or large is welcome to cover the costs of getting this all going and we will send the boat plans to you via email as thanks.
Once we have all the scientific folk involved we are hoping to create a kit with the mushrooms that we can either have sent to you or if possible you can put together yourself.
Please check back for further announcements.
THE OVER ALL PROJECT
As the global economies fall into collapse there will be a need for people to begin growing their own food and living simpler lives where they take time to enjoy. Showing and offering them alternatives is a big part of this project. We aim to take entertainment, a good time on the boat with good music and offer trainings.
However, two very large problems face us all…the drastically changing climate for growing food and the on grow effects from radiation from FUKUSHIMA.
This boat project addresses creating ones own food in naturally controlled spaces regardless of the weather and it also investigating the possibilities of using mushrooms as a possible way to deal with the increasing radiation that is working its way through the Northern Hemishere and all of our food chains.

We start off this section by noting that we don’t claim that we have any sort of one-size-fits all magic bullet for our collective dilemma which is the spreading radiation throughout the northern hemisphere of this planet.
What we do have is a path of possible solution that needs to be explored immediately which is presented by the disaster (which is also ongoing btw) at Chernybol.
Gomphidius glutinosus, Craterellus tubaeformis, an
The above information is promising in as it would seem that the melan(dark pigment) of these mushrooms convert radiation into food for growth(in a sense).
This brings up the possibilities of different scenarios in different regions with different Melanized fungi around the world.
Many questions need to answered in this respect, the main one being:
If these spores, fungi, mushrooms, and their underlying mycelium networks absorb massive levels of radiation but intern become radioactive(we are consulting experts on the specifics of this) then how to utilize their absorbing properties and yet at the same time constrain their spreading unabated. It is noted that may human diseases have been connected to melanized fungi.
To this question we believe the answer lies in a technology we have been following since its inception in the 80s which has become now mainstream and also utilizes a phenomenon in nature.
We refer to OLED technology which utilizes organic enzymes stimulated by electricity to change colors and has been the basis of a new form of high definition displays.
We are also in touch with experts in this field as pertains to this project.
Merck site in Darmstadt is doing very interesting work in Germany.
At the end of the day we hope to collectively find ways to use the above ideas to collectively formulate varying solutions to these problems.
Our initial intention was to work out deals with boat owners to use their vessels to do this project starting in Europe. While we had a nice offer of using a Dutch TJALK located in Holland, it proved challenging as the Captain we currently have to start with is only licensed to operate vessels up to 20 meters in Germany and the open waters where we are beginning the project and the vessel offered was 38 meters.
Also to be considered is that most people wishing to sell their boats need the money and as the economies worsen they are less likely to want to participate without up front payment and unfortunately we are just starting out and not in that position.
So we decided to design and create the first vessel ourselves utilizing some innovative ideas for quick construction, ease of build and that would also be able to sail blue water and rough seas.
Later along in the project we hope to acquire idle shipping container freighters and covert them to a combination of transatlantic traveller transport equipped with converted shipping container lodgings and an entire greenhouse farming ecosystems on board. These kind of transports will eventually replace air travel as it becomes price prohibitive for the average traveler and airlines begin going bankrupt due to rising fuel prices.
We have designed a 20 meter sailing barge with modifications to structure that we belief will yield a vessel that will not only always right itself but also will have a hull that will be impervious to breech…
At present we are constructing a scale prototype to be finished in the coming days which we will be putting user extreme stress test and will be filming the results to share.
We are combining techniques used in Ferro-cement boat construction with a few test and at the end of the day we might not use ferro-cemet on the finished outer hull at all but wood epoxy.
We also are combining the use of geodesic dome design as well as a shock up sorbing technique utilizing the concept of Waddle and Daub with counter balancing recoiled rubber inner tubes and straps.
Once our technique prooves what we think it will, we will be able to reproduce it extremly quickly and will make the plans available to all interested parties. These boats will make excellent living, presentation, and working environments and the cost of the materials will not exceed 500 to 600 euros at most.
Please see below below a few pics of the designs(will post shortly)
Closed Environment Food Production on the Boats
We will be growing a lot of our own food on the boat and are setting up a greenhouse system on the upperdeck as well as an aquaponics system on the interior. We have made place also on the various decks for approximately 20 vertical growing towers producing 60 plants each.
We also will of course be setting up to grow various types of mushrooms and demonstrations on the abilities of plants to clean water and toxins from environments.
